Snorkelbot is not a standard product, but a platform for building on, and implementing cost saving solutions regarding marine biology field work.

 

 

Shallow reef underwater video recording, notably stereoscopic has been demonstrated. With a smoother camera dome and newer generations of camera modules, quality of recordings will be improved.

 

 

Versions as tethered camera dragging over deeper reefs and low-cost eDNA sampling are unique in the world of marine robotics, and indicate possibilities with occurring marine sensors for data logging/transmitting during vast missions, also in open ocean. Obvious sensors to implement are for water temperature and pH value, while building in a vertical sonar enables bathymetric mapping.

 

 

Design and building of all system aspects is being performed by Dutch engineer and product developer Cas Theeuwes, with production at a plant in Vietnam. Boats build will be shipped from there in a custom build crate, and services in operation, as well as training are offered. Purchasing a Snorkelbot system is of course a possibility.

 

 

There is a high level of flexibility in realizing production, and it might be convenient to have assembly of these vehicles done at your own facility, anywhere in the world. This, for a close relation between all system aspects, maintenance and operation by a possibly existing team on your side, active in marine sensory or perhaps already robotics. Certain design features might be omitted to save cost, such as elimination of self-righting, if the vehicle will never encounter high waves on the open seas. As well the mechanical self-cleaning of the camera dome, if planned mission will not take more than a day or two.
